Daniel Dubois set up world title shot with one-round blitz over career-destroying heavyweight on Jake Paul undercard

Daniel Dubois will rematch one of just two men who was able to beat him as he takes on Oleksandr Usyk again this summer.

Daniel Dubois has just two losses on his record, one to Joe Joyce and another to Oleksandr Usyk, a loss he hopes to rectify.

Dubois, whose low-blow against Usyk remains a talking point ahead of their rematch, technically won his first world title out of the ring, as he beat Filip Hrgovic for the IBF interim title, but was updated to full champion once Usyk vacated the belt.

But it was before that that Dubois won the WBA Regular title from Trevor Bryan with a crushing KO, a fight he set up with a dominant victory over a heavyweight who destroyed a fighter’s career.

Daniel Dubois’s opponent destroyed the promising career of Adam Kownacki

In 2020, Adam Kownacki looked set to become a force in the heavyweight division with KO wins over Charles Martin, Chris Arreola, and Gerald Washington.

Kownacki stepped up in competition for his 21st fight against Robert Helenius, who stopped him in just four rounds.

Kownacki, keen to get his career back on track, rematched ‘The Nordic Nightmare’ but lost again.

His bad luck didn’t end there as he dropped a unanimous decision loss to Ali Eren Demirezen next, before coming back to fight Joe Cusumano.

Cusumano truly put the nail in the coffin with an eighth round KO, though it was later ruled a no-contest when Cusumano tested positive for PEDs.

Kownacki had one more fight, which he lost in round one, marking five losses in a row and the end of his career.

Cusumano hasn’t fought since the Kownacki fight, but was decimated two years before it in just one round by Dubois. The fight took place on the undercard of Jake Paul‘s first fight with Tyron Woodley, in which Paul won by decision.

There is just one man Daniel Dubois couldn’t knock out

At 8-0, Dubois faced durable journeyman and former Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury opponent – Kevin Johnson.

Dubois beat Johnson via a landslide decision, but was unable to stop him, making Johnson the first person to go the distance with the Brit.

Nobody has done it since, and Johnson remains the only one.
