Julio Cesar Chavez is nothing short of a legend in Mexico, so for a talented fighter in his own right to have the opportunity to travel out there and build a fearsome reputation for himself, is nothing short of the stuff of dreams.
The gifted boxer trained in the very same gym as ‘El Gran Campeón Mexicano’, scaring the life out of the locals with his fearsome skills.

BJ Flores used to destroy sparring partners in the gym where Julio Cesar Chavez honed his craft
In his esteemed career, BJ Flores proved himself to be a fantastic technician inside the ring, competing for world honors and recording an impressive 34 victories.
However, he may never have reached the level he did, without his grueling sparring sessions in the heart of Mexico.
Proving he had the minerals to make it in the sport, Flores excelled in the toughest of environments, handing out vicious beatings to anyone who dared set foot in the ring with him.
His performances became the stuff of legend, with the locals referring to him as ‘Peligroso’, which translates into English as ‘Dangerous’.
Sheesh: Boxing legend claims he signed to fight Floyd Mayweather, but ‘Money’ pulled out
In an exclusive interview with Bloody Knockout, he reminisced: “When I was 19 and 20, I lived in Culiacán, Mexico. Gracia Mexico. I had an amazing experience over there, I’m Latin and Hispanic on my dad’s side.
“I loved living out there. The people are beautiful, and I got to train out there. Once I got back from my service time I was doing out there, I got back into amateur USA boxing, won a couple of national championships, and turned professional in 2003.”
BJ Flores says Jake Paul ‘Is in another universe’
Since his retirement from boxing, Flores has become an esteemed trainer, guiding Jake Paul to huge success inside the squared circle.
Now, he’s working with a plethora of YouTubers, including Wade Plemons, who just picked up a victory over Masai Warrior at Misfits 20.
However, as good as the commentator’s debut win was, he has a long way to go if he wants to reach the same level as ‘The Problem Child’.
Flores explained: “Jake’s in another universe, Jake’s in another hemisphere. Jake dedicated everything in his life. It was all about boxing.
“Look where he’s at now. Millions of dollars later, Jake is proving people wrong all the time, showing people that somebody who’s never boxed before can go out there and accomplish what they want and follow their dreams.
“Jake is a testament to that. He has power, speed, nuts and mental determination. He’s like my little brother. I love Jake.
“These guys at this level, they have a long way to go before they get to Jake. It’s years of following the same routine.
“But there’s some talent here, with Josh Brueckner and Tristan Hamm, and then Wade, he’s only trained for 30 days. Look at him after 90 days and six months. He’s going to be in a different situation.”
