Conor Benn angrily screamed at opponent who kept running away from him four years before Eubank grudge match

Conor Benn hopes to even the score against the Eubank name with a win over Chris Eubank Jr. on April 26th.

Conor Benn has built a reputation as a ferocious knockout artist, and, with brutal knockouts over two former champions, it’s clear Benn gets his moniker ‘The Destroyer’ not only from his dad, but also his destructive power.

Benn retired three men in a row, including Chris Algieri and Chris Van Heerden. He has since delivered two mediocre stateside performances whilst undergoing a lengthy investigation process into his alleged use of PEDs, which he was cleared of.

It was his fight before retiring Algieri with a devastating KO that Benn faced his most frustrating opponent.

Conor Benn was fuming as his opponent refused to engage

In 2021, on the undercard of Mauricio Lara vs Josh Warrington 2, Benn faced 21-8-3 Adrian Granados.

Benn had hoped to showcase his destructive power, but Granados made this almost impossible as he constantly evaded Benn, opting to run instead of engaging with the Brit.

The fight went the distance, but Benn was visibly frustrated seconds before the final bell, shouting at Granados and imploring him to come forward and trade shots. Benn won a comfortable shutout decision.

After the fight he said to iFL TV: “[I’m] just frustrated, I mean he said we were gonna come together like mack trucks and it was gonna be a great fight for the fans and all that yadayadayada, and he come here and got on his bike for the whole ten.”

Upon Granados entering the interview, the pair show one another respect but Benn is forced to respond when Granados claimed he believed he won the fight.

“There was nothing thrown back at me for him to warrant the win, there was nothing there. […] He was on his bike the whole fight,” Benn said.

Granados has not fought since, and marked the first of three men Benn retired.

Conor Benn’s fight before Granados lasted just 80 seconds

Before facing Granados, Benn took on 31-6-2 Samuel Vargas in London. The fight was Benn’s first scheduled 12-round contest, but it didn’t go nearly that far.

Just 80 seconds into the first round, Benn, who almost lost to Cedrick Peynaud, delivered a crushing onslaught that blasted Vargas, forcing the referee to step in and stop the action.

Adam Smith said of Benn’s 80-second KO of Vargas: “Sensational! Conor Benn wins in double quick time […] and blows away Sammy Vargas quicker than Errol Spence, Danny Garcia, or Vergil Ortiz. This is a man that went 12 rounds with Amir Khan.”

Benn is seeking the biggest win of his career this month as he hopes to knock out his bitter rival Chris Eubank Jr., not only to settle the score between the Benns and Eubanks, but also because he has admitted he truly dislikes Eubank Jr.
