Chris Eubank Sr. reveals reason for wearing a sheriff’s badge as he becomes police officer in Louisiana

Chris Eubank became one of Britain’s most iconic stars due to both his boxing and his eccentric character.

Chris Eubank retired in 1998 with a record of 45-5-2. He was beaten only by three men, and stopped only once.

Eubank’s career has been an illustrious one, with one of the most famous rivalries in all of boxing with Nigel Benn, which is now set to enter a new chapter with Chris Eubank Jr facing Conor Benn in April.

The pair fought in front of over 40,000 fans to a draw though Eubank admits he believes Benn was the rightful winner. Benn and Eubank signed their contracts on live TV in what was an iconic moment in their bitter rivalry.

Despite such an impressive career, it is Eubank’s eccentric character, complete with a posh accent, that makes him most recognisable.

Chris Eubank is now an Honorary Marshall in Louisiana

Despite living in both London and Brighton for much of his life, Eubank has moved to Louisiana following his retirement from boxing.

Speaking in the ‘Four Kings’ documentary on Amazon Prime, Eubank said:

“The three brothers I lived with and grew up with in the UK, they were unconsciously cruel to me. Bullying is what put me on this track of being a law enforcement officer.”

Eubank recognizes how he is perceived for antics like this: “Of course I’m crazy, but it’s a positive crazy.”

In an interview with iFL TV seven years ago, Eubank spoke of the reason behind his sheriff’s badge:

“There can never be anything ever disgraceful about serving and protecting everybody within the community at large. […] We protect and serve always.”

Why Chris Eubank called his son an ‘ordinary fighter’ ahead of Conor Benn clash

Earlier this month, Eubank took to his YouTube channel to answer questions from his fans.

At one point, the boxing legend spoke on his son, who he seemingly has a strained relationship with, opting not to train him anymore and not to go anywhere near the promotion for the Benn fight.

“The style that you had was incredible, but you changed that style to that of Mr Jones. This has made you, in my view, an ordinary fighter.”

He continued: “You are not a reflex fighter which is what you have now gone to by dropping the hands. This is part in parcel as to why you have decreased in ability.”

Eubank also comments on what strained their trainer-fighter relationship: “How can you be behind someone who does not listen?

Over and above that, someone who will do the opposite of what you advise? This is what I’ve had to deal with.”

Eubank Jr made waves online recently after smashing an egg in the face of Benn at their press conference in Manchester.
