Chris Eubank Jr.’s first loss was to fellow countryman who became a world champion

British superstar Chris Eubank Jr. is set to take on Conor Benn in a grudge match that will shake the world of boxing.

Preparing to meet on April 26th, 2025, the two British rivals will finally lay gloves on one another, as the two have had a fiery relationship.

Benn will go into the bout with an undefeated record of 23-0. However, he will be over one year out of the ring when he fights next, with his last win coming in February 2024.

As for Eubank Jr., the fighter has a record of 34-3 going into the fight. However, his first loss on his record came against his fellow countryman.

Chris Eubank Jr. suffered his first loss to Billy Joe Saunders in 2014

Eubank Jr. put his undefeated record on the line in November 2014 when he faced fellow British fighter Billy Joe Saunders. Meeting in London, Eubank Jr. had a record of 18-0, while Saunders was 20-0 at the time.

Fighting on the same event that included Tyson Fury vs Derek Chisora, the middleweight bout would end via split decision. However, it would be Saunders who won the battle of the then-25-year-olds.

The two men were seemingly exhausted as the fight came to a close. As the judges read the scorecards, the bout was scored 116-113 for Eubank, as well as 115-113 and 115-114 for Saunders.

Eubank’s late rally in the fight was not enough to convince the judges he won the bout, as he succumbed to the first professional loss of his career.

The following year, Saunders would go on to beat Andy Lee to become a world champion. Lee defeated Matvey Korobov to claim the WBO World Middleweight title, however, Saunders would then dethrone the Irishman in his first attempted defense.

As for Eubank Jr., he would claim the IBO World Super Middleweight title in 2017, in his sixth win in a row after his first loss. He defeated Renold Quinlan to claim the title.

Chris Eubank Jr. has only lost to British opposition in his career

At the time of writing, Eubank Jr. has just three losses across 37 fights and a 14-year career. However, one statistic that Eubank Jr. fans may want to consider going into the Benn grudge-match is that all of his losses have been handed to him by British opposition.

Eubank Jr. lost his undefeated record to Saunders in 2014, before going on an eight-fight winning streak, which included a brutal win over Anvi Yildirim. Then, he would face fellow Englishman George Groves in 2018, who bested him via unanimous decision.

The loss was the second of Eubank Jr.’s career, as well as the defeat seeing him drop his IBO World Super Middleweight title.

The third loss of his career came in 2023 when he faced Liam Smith in Manchester. The loss to Smith would also be the first time Eubank Jr. was stopped, losing via fourth-round TKO.
