Canelo’s fight with Miguel Cotto was almost derailed by an embarrassing accident minutes before the bout

Canelo will make his bid to become a two-time undisputed super-middleweight champion against William Scull this Saturday. He is already the only boxer to become undisputed in the division at all.

Canelo has built up a record of 62-2-2, putting on dominant displays over a host of world champions and seasoned fighters.

Canelo has beaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev and Miguel Cotto amongst many others.

It was minutes ahead of the Cotto fight, though, that Canelo encountered a unique yet embarrassing problem.

Canelo’s team had to help him use the toilet minutes before Cotto fight

After wrapping his hands, lacing up his gloves, and putting on his cup, Canelo, who KO’d Rocky Fielding after his won over Golovkin, was ready and raring to go against the 40-4 veteran.

But there was just one problem – nature was calling. Canelo, unable to use his hands, was forced to seek the help of his team to avoid an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction minutes before his ring walk.

He told BigBoyTV: “When I fought Miguel Cotto, I had everything on – the gloves, the cup.”

“I said to my friend, ‘Hey, I need to go pee […] He said, ‘What?'”

“I said, ‘Help me. How am I gonna f—— pull out the thing?'”

His team member reluctantly helped him use the bathroom, though matters only got more hilarious as Canelo recalls his conversation immediately after using the toilet:

“I peed and I said, ‘Now you need to [shake it] because otherwise I’m gonna [pee] on my shorts.'”

The Mexican star moved on from the incident and went on to win a clear unanimous decision over Cotto, whose brother wobbled Canelo, with no wardrobe malfunctions or humiliating accidents in sight.

Canelo’s nickname represents a victory over his childhood bullies

Canelo, real name Saul Alvarez, is nicknamed as such because of his red hair and freckles, with Canelo meaning ‘Cinnamon’ in Spanish.

It’s widely reported that Canelo, who faces William Scull this Saturday, was picked on as a child because of his hair color and freckled complexion, with the bullying becoming a catalyst for him taking up boxing.

Years later, he is a three-weight world champion and undeniably the face of boxing, owing to his red hair, freckles, and resilience against adversity.
