Canelo Alvarez has established himself as one of modern boxing’s greatest talents as a multi-division champion.
Making his debut in 2005, Alvarez was remarkably just 15 when he won his first fight via knockout in the opening round. Almost 20 years later, the Mexican has only been bested by two men in his career.
There are plenty of notable moments and periods in the career of Alvarez. From an epic trilogy with Gennadiy Golovkin to Alvarez finishing Billy Joe Saunders, he is truly one of the greatest Mexican fighters of all time.
Winning two of The Ring Magazine’s ‘Fighter of the Year’ awards, Alvarez won the title for the first time in 2019 thanks to just two performances.

Canelo Alvarez fought Daniel Jacobs in May 2019
In his first outing in 2019, Alvarez would fight in Las Vegas in May. Fighting Daniel Jacobs in a middleweight unification bout, Alvarez was aiming to defend his WBA and WBC titles, while attempting to claim the IBF belt.
Jacobs went into the bout on a three-fight winning streak. His last defeat came to Golovkin in 2017.
Despite the bout being a relatively close one, Alvarez would be able to unify the world titles. The judges scored the fight 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113 in favor of the Mexican.
Jacobs was able to have a strong effort against the all-time great. However, the resilience and defensive abilities of Alvarez would shine in an impressive performance.
Canelo Alvarez stopped Sergey Kovalev in November 2019
Six months after his middleweight unification bout, Alvarez set his sights on a new weight division. However, instead of fighting in the super middleweight division, Alvarez jumped up to light heavyweight to challenge Sergey Kovalev.
The Russian fighter was the WBO World Light Heavyweight champion and was coming off a knockout win over Anthony Yarde in his last bout.
However, despite being the supposed smaller fighter, Alvarez had an epic performance.
After 10 completed rounds, Alvarez was slightly ahead on two of the judges’ scorecards, while the third official had the bout a draw. Taking matters into his own hands, Alvarez would ensure that the judges would not be needed in the bout.
In the 11th round, a left hook followed by a right hand would render the Russian unconscious. With the bout being waved off, Alvarez capped off his 2019 in style.
