Canelo Alvarez got rocked by Jose Cotto
On May 1, 2010, Canelo Alvarez went to war with Miguel Cotto’s brother, Jose Cotto, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
In a battle of Mexico vs Puerto Rico, the younger man knew the importance of producing a big performance.

Sensing that an upset was on the cards, Cotto stormed in to secure the finish, connecting with explosive one-twos on the future world champion who looked in serious trouble.
In a testament to his fighting heart, Canelo battled back, landing big shots of his own, but after getting away from the ropes, he was still on wobbly legs.
After surviving the opening segment, the Guadalajara boxer came out in the second with a point to prove, landing excellent countershots, dropping Cotto with an uppercut.

While getting wobbled by Cotto certainly wasn’t ideal, it wasn’t the biggest piece of adversity that the all-time great faced in the early portion of his career.
Of course, boxing fans remember Floyd Mayweather beating Canelo with ease in a sublime boxing display.
However, very few can recall the name of the man who inflicted the first blemish on the warrior’s record.
In a huge upset, Canelo was held to a draw against a fighter with more losses than wins.
