Canelo Alvarez could have his biggest payday ever on September 13, with a fight purse that is expected to dwarf what Terence Crawford has commanded for the bout.
Crawford battled Canelo in Las Vegas after making the jump up to Super Middleweight, having conquered the Lightweight, Light Middleweight, Light Welterweight, and Welterweight divisions.
While many back Crawford to beat Canelo on the night, he will walk into Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas as the underdog against the bigger and stronger champion.
That is not the only thing Crawford is struggling to match Canelo in, as the Mexican’s payday is reported to be vastly more than Bud is getting.

Canelo Alvarez could earn 15 times what Terence Crawford makes for the fight
With reports about both fighters’ pay coming out, it is clear that Canelo is earning the lion’s share of the purse on September 13.
The bout is the second in Canelo’s record-breaking $400 million deal with Riyadh Season, which guarantees the Mexican fighter at least $80 million per fight, if not more.
With the hype around the bout and the huge numbers expected to tune in, SI.com reported that the real figure Canelo could earn may be closer to $150 million.
Meanwhile, Crawford has been open about his paycheck for the event, if it is enormously lower than Canelo’s.
He previously told Ring Champion with Ak & Barak that he is making $10 million for the fight, arguing that legacy and becoming Super Middleweight champion is more important than money.
Crawford said: “I mean, I got $10 million for that fight. I’m doing it for the opportunity, baby — the legacy. Legacy outweighs the money.”
If both those numbers are correct, then Canelo will be earning 15 times more than Crawford for the bout. While $150 million is an enormous fee, it does not come close to being the record fee for a boxer for one single fight.
Canelo Alvarez’s fee is still dwarfed by Floyd Mayweather’s biggest paydays
Canelo’s reported $150 million is substantial, but he still has some way to make more money than Floyd Mayweather.
Mayweather has already commanded millions just from exhibition fights, with Mayweather vs Mike Tyson expected to be a huge payday for both fighters, but his professional fights broke records.
The 50-0 former world champion earned close to $300 million for his bout with Conor McGregor in 2017, with another reported $250 million for his bout with Manny Pacquiao, although these numbers could well be even higher.
Rank | Fighter | Opponent | Year | Earnings |
1 | Floyd Mayweather Jr. | Conor McGregor | 2017 | $300 million |
2 | Floyd Mayweather Jr. | Manny Pacquiao | 2015 | $240-250million |
3 | Manny Pacquiao | Floyd Mayweather Jr. | 2015 | $130 million |
4 | Conor McGregor | Floyd Mayweather Jr. | 2017 | $125-160 million |
5 | Tyson Fury | Oleksandr Usyk | 2024 | $75-90 million |
The $150 million fee Canelo is set to earn would put him potentially third on the list of the highest fees for a single fight ever, just above Pacquiao’s reported $130 million purse for the Mayweather fight.
Crawford may be being short-changed, but he will have unimagined riches if he manages to beat Canelo to become Super Middleweight champion on September 13.
