Caleb Plant is looking to work his way back into world title contention as he returns to action on May 31st.
After suffering defeats to Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez, Plant now finds himself with a professional record of 23-2. However, he will aim to make it back-to-back wins when he faces Jose Armando Resendiz in Las Vegas.
Since Plant defeated Caleb Truax in 2021, he has gone 2-2 in his following four fights. However, if he is able to have a good showing in his 2025 return, he could potentially set up a big fight with Jermall Charlo.
In his last outing, Plant was able to recover from an early scare to score an incredible knockout.

Caleb Plant came back from knockdown to stop Trevor McCumby
Following his loss to Benavidez, Plant returned to the ring in September 2024, facing Trevor McCumby. The bout took place in the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.
McCumby had a professional record of 28-0, with his last win coming over Christopher Pearson. In the fourth round of the fight, it appeared as if he would extend his unbeaten run.
Plant would be caught by a left hook to the body, which was immediately followed up by a shot from the same side to the head. The blows would knock Plant down and through the ropes.
With 30 seconds left in the round, McCumby was unable to dispose of the former champion.
In the sixth round, Plant had seemingly reclaimed his confidence as he began to showboat to his opponent, landing heavy shots in the process.
The ninth round would then include the final moments of the fight. As Plant was hurting his opponent on numerous occasions, he began to sting McCumby time and time again.
At the end of the ninth round, a barrage of punches from the former champion would find McCumby.
The combination would eventually see the unbeaten fighter fall to the ropes as the referee waved off the bout. The fight’s final moments would come at the very end of the round, with the official time of the stoppage being 2:59.
Plant, who also knocked out Anthony Dirrell, returned to the win column with what was his 14th professional stoppage.
Caleb Plant is looking to hand Jose Armando Resendiz his third career loss
In Plant’s 2025 return, he will look to improve his professional record to 23-2. The opponent he is facing has a record of 15-2, with one loss coming by way of stoppage.
Resendiz won his last outing via TKO, when he took on Fernando Paliza (5-2) in his native Mexico. The bout took place in February 2025.
As for his last loss, that came in September 2023 when Resendiz faced Elijah Garcia (15-0). Getting stopped in the eighth round, this was the first time the Mexican had been stopped.
‘Sweethands’ has also only been stopped once in his career as Plant lost to Alvarez.
