Caleb Plant will return to the ring in May against 15-2 Jose Armando Resendiz in a doubleheader also featuring Jermall Charlo.
Caleb Plant is coming off of a ninth-round TKO win over Trevor McCumby in his latest fight.
The win against McCumby was a much-needed one as Plant suffered his second career defeat one fight prior against David Benavidez, with his only other loss coming at the hands of Canelo Alvarez.
However, it was two years before the Canelo fight when Plant fulfilled a lifelong promise when he won his first world title against Jose Uzcategui.

Caleb Plant reveals he promised his late daughter he’d win a world title in emotional post-fight interview
In 2019, Plant won the IBF super-middleweight title against the 28-2 Uzcategui, knocking him down twice en route to a unanimous decision victory.
This victory meant more than just a world title to Plant, it meant fulfilling a promise he’d made to his late daughter, Alia, who passed away at 19 months old after a respiratory infection developed to pneumonia.
Plant was visibly emotional and fell to his knees as the decision was announced. In his post-fight interview he said:
“I’ve worked my whole entire life for this. 17 years straight. I buried my daughter in the process of trying to get this belt. I promised her that I’d become a world champion and that I’d bring her this title, and that’s exactly what I’m gonna go back to Tennessee and do. Nashville stand up!”
Uzcategui was also heard saying to Plant after the decision “Es pa tu baby” or “It’s for your baby”, showing great respect and sportsmanship for his opponent.
Caleb Plant shared a heartwarming moment with Canelo Alvarez after their title fight
Plant defended his title against Mike Lee and others, before losing his title to Canelo in 2021, allowing Canelo to become the first and only undisputed super middleweight champion, a feat he plans to do again as he takes on William Scull next.
The build-up to their fight saw a press conference brawl ensue between Plant and Canelo after Plant called Canelo a “m———–“, something Canelo misunderstood, believing Plant was insulting his mom and his family.
Plant’s mom passed away after a fatal encounter with a police officer just two months after his world title victory.
Following his brave effort in the ring, which ended in an eleventh round TKO, Canelo told Plant:
“Don’t be ashamed, you are a great fighter man. And I’m sorry for everything but at the end of the day we are men, and we are human.”
Plant, who KO’d Anthony Dirrell, responded: “When I said ‘m———–‘, I would never talk about your mother, because I don’t have a mother, my mom died.”
“You have a really good and beautiful family. You are my family,” Canelo said.
