Former world champion Caleb Plant suffered his first professional loss when he came up against Canelo Alvarez in 2021.
Getting stopped by Alvarez in their super middleweight title unification bout, it was the first time in over 20 fights that Plant was bested.
However, Plant was just 29 years old when he fell short in his bout against one of the greatest middleweights of all time. This meant that he looked to rebuild himself into title contention.
Making a huge statement, Plant bounced back in the best way possible.

Caleb Plant had a stunning knockout victory over Anthony Dirrell
Plant would make his return to the ring just under one year after his TKO loss to Alvarez in October 2022.
On his return, Plant would take on Anthony Dirrell (34-2-2). The pair would compete in a super middleweight non-title bout, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Although Dirrell was a step down in quality from Alvarez, he was a former WBC World Super Middleweight title holder, only dropping the belt to David Benavidez in 2019.
However, Plant would be able to remind everybody of his quality in the bout.
Leading the fight through eight rounds, the ninth would see Plant land a stunning knockout blow. After going low to the body, Plant came back up with a left hook, catching his opponent clean and sending him flat to his back.
The referee almost immediately waved off the bout as Plant celebrated in a unique way.
Caleb Plant faced David Benavidez following Dirrell victory
After his impressive knockout over Dirrell, Plant would be matched up with Benavidez, who was aiming to defend his WBC Interim World Super Middleweight title.
However, although Plant had some success in the fight, he would have the second defeat of his career in March 2023. Benavidez would be named the winner via unanimous decision, improving his record to 27-0.
Plant’s most recent fight came 18 months after his Benavidez loss, earning a TKO victory over Trevor McCumby in September 2024.
As for Benavidez, he currently holds the WBC Interim World Light Heavyweight title, as he moved to the weight class in 2024. ‘The Monster’ now finds himself as a potential opponent for unified champion Dmitry Bivol.
