Boxing con-man who posed as a relative of Tyson Fury

Tyson Fury has attracted a whole host of fans throughout his impressive career, but one man took his love for Fury too far when he attempted to assume his identity.

Davy Fury is a 6ft7 fighter from Manchester and a relative of Tyson Fury who took up boxing in a bid to escape his life of organized crime.

His voice was rough like that of Tyson, who is still Eddie Hearn’s target fight for Anthony Joshua, and John Fury, who pulled his pants down at a fight presser, and he was a well-known traveler in the community. He even sported a beard like ‘The Gypsy King,’ but even these similarities weren’t enough to detract from the reality of the situation.

The reality was that it was all a lie.

Davy Fury lied about connection to Tyson Fury, isn’t 6ft7, and isn’t even a traveler

It became clear that Davy’s backstory was a complete fabrication. He wasn’t from Manchester, he wasn’t 6ft7, he wasn’t a traveler, and he wasn’t ever involved in organized crime, only petty fraud. He certainly was not related to Tyson Fury.

His name isn’t Davy Fury, but David Overton, a man who, in a bid for fame, fortune, and female attention, dyed his beard, shaved his head and created an entire false narrative for himself.

And to top it off, he couldn’t even box.

Fans of the sport were quick to see through his lies, with one commenting on YouTube:

“Biggest conman from Leek, Staffordshire. He’s conning you here too! David Overton. I’m all for a new start, but not when you’re pretending to be someone you’re not.”

In 2022, Overton was arrested for almost thirty years for his manipulative and abusive relationships with women, many of which started after he lied about connections with the real Fury family.

Comments show just how many people Davy Fury tricked

In the comments of one of Overton’s interviews, it becomes clear just how many people were fooled by his con, and believed to either be related to the Furys, or to be an honest man, neither of which were true.

One said: “Got the bald head the beard and the voice…All the tools to be the lineal heavyweight champion of the world!”

Whilst another commented on his likeness with the Furys: “John Fury has been putting it about yrs ago hes the spit of tyson pmsl”

Many others shared well wishes for the heavyweight, though one was not convinced:

“There’s a rumour that if you change your name to fury by deed poll, down 8 pints of Guinness, look in the mirror and say John fury 3 times, you wake up the next day 6ft7+ with a beard and bald head!!”

Davy Fury marks just another fraud in boxing, like Jorge Kahwagi, who fought with ridiculous muscle implants. The difference is, however, that Fury’s intentions were far more malicious.
