Anthony Yarde’s crushing uppercut KO in 2022 set up his fight with Artur Beterbiev

Anthony Yarde will return to action in April 2025, as he looks to make it four wins in a row.

Yarde will take on Lyndon Arthur for the third time on the undercard of Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr. The two English fighters are currently tied at one win apiece and will aim to settle the score in London.

Following his loss to Artur Beterbiev in early 2023, Yarde has collected three victories, with two knockouts. To get a shot at the former world champion, Yarde had an impressive knockout win.

Anthony Yarde knocked out Stefani Koykov in 2022 before Artur Beterbiev fight

In November 2022, Yarde was returning to boxing after almost a year on the sidelines. His last outing was his knockout victory over Arthur to admen his loss. For his next challenge, he would take on Stefani Koykov.

The Bulgarian had a professional record of 14-1 and was one year younger than the British fighter, aged 30. Koykov had not tasted defeat since his third professional fight.

However, despite going into the bout in good form, Koykov could not get the victory on enemy soil in Telford, England.

In just the third round of the bout, Yarde would be able to end the fight. Just after the midpoint of the round, the Englishman began to pile on the pressure as Koykov retreated.

As the Bulgarian was attempting to cover up in defense, Yarde would pick shots around his guard. As an uppercut found its way through Koykov’s defense, the fighter would be knocked down.

Not beating the 10 count, the fight would be over. Yarde earned the 23rd win and the 22nd stoppage of his career. The win would set up Yarde’s second world title opportunity against Beterbiev.

In January 2023, Yarde would fight reigning champion Beterbiev, who was the holder of the WBC, IBF, and WBO World Light Heavyweight titles.

The title holder was looking to defend his three unified titles for the first time. However, Beterbiev first became world champion in style in 2017.

Yarde put the Russian-Canadian in some danger in the fight. Despite being undefeated, Beterbiev would find himself behind on the scorecards after seven rounds.

However, in the eighth round, the champion would ensure that the judges’ scorecards were not necessary.

To end an epic fight, Beterbiev would be able to capitalise on the success he had at the end of the seventh round. Yarde was put down by Beterbiev with just over a minute remaining. However, despite Yarde wanting to continue, his corner called off the bout moments after the restart.
