Andy Ruiz Jr defeated Alexander Dimitrenko, who was once called ‘The new Klitschko’
Prior to his fight on the undercard of Vitali Klitschko vs Ross Purity, Alexander Dimitrenko was branded ‘The new Klitschko’ by his coach at the time, Fritz Sdunek.
In the early portion of his career, the Ukrainian looked like a genuine star for the future. However, after losses to Eddie Chambers, Kubrat Pulev, Joseph Parker and Bryant Jennings, his star power began to diminish.
Therefore, when the 6ft7 powerhouse faced Andy Ruiz Jr on April 20, 2019, at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, USA, he simply couldn’t afford to lose.
However, that’s exactly what happened, with the future heavyweight world champion dominating the contest.
Over the course of five rounds, Ruiz Jr landed snappy shots, leading to a barrage of punches in the fifth that had the veteran hurt.
At the end of the segment, Dimitrenko’s team pulled him out.
Just over a month later, the victor defeated Anthony Joshua.
Joseph Parker beat Alexander Dimitrenko via a controversial knockout
Parker’s victory over Dimitrenko was even quicker than Ruiz Jr’s.
In a brutal display, the New Zealander stopped the skilled fighter inside just three rounds.
However, the contest wasn’t without controversy.
In an extremely bizarre ending, Parker finished Dimitrenko with what appeared to be an illegal shot.
