‘Is this real?’… Fans baffled as boxer appears to wear jean shorts and Timberland boots during world title fight

It’s not uncommon to see professional boxers sporting rather dazzling shorts and shoes, but a pair of denim trunks and Timberland boots might be the strangest combination in boxing history.

Popular American star Stephen Fulton secured a statement victory last night in Las Vegas, but he also sent a fashion statement to the wider boxing world as he entered the T-Mobile Arena with a unique attire.

With the WBC World Featherweight title on the line, Fulton emerged from the locker room sporting a pair of knee-length denim jean shorts and a pair of ‘Timberland boots’, as fans around the world questioned what on Earth was going on.

Stephen Fulton wins world title in ‘jean shorts and Timberland boots’

Stephen Fulton secured the WBC Featherweight title last night with an impressive unanimous decision win over Brandon Figueroa in the co-main event of David Benavidez vs David Morrell.

Whilst the fight itself was highly entertaining, the vast majority of the headlines this morning are instead focused on Fulton’s unique attire – a pair of denim ‘jorts’ and a pair of boots made to look like Timberlands.

Boxing fans watching from around the world couldn’t believe what they were seeing, with social media awash with comments and reactions before the opening bell had even sounded.

“That outfit was perfect,” wrote one viewer on Instagram, adding “Whomever made those boxing shoes to look like Timberlands is brilliant.”

“Bru looks like he’s a fight off Def Jam,” read another, with countless comments revolving around Fulton looking like a character from iconic video game series.

It was the same story on X too, with comments ranging from “Those boxing boots are awesome!” all the way to “Generationally stupid stuff” and “DRIP OVER EVERYTHING!”

Rest and recovery in store for Stephen Fulton after winning WBC title

Last night’s victory meant Fulton moved to 2-0 up against Figueroa, having bested ‘The Heartbreaker’ via majority decision in 2021 – later admitting that it was much easier this time around.

“I feel like he didn’t let enough shots go like he normally would,” said Fulton after the rematch.

“I think he slowed down in this division. His punch output was down from our first fight. I capitalized off of that, used my jab and listened to my corner. His power wasn’t anything different from the first fight.”

When asked about his plans for the rest of 2025, the new WBC Featherweight champion refused to define his next move, stating that he’s going to “enjoy the victory while I can.

“I’m living in a moment right now and not overlooking anything. I’m just going to focus on this and maybe next month and we’ll weigh [up] our options.”

Fulton now holds the WBC featherweight title; the other championship belts are currently held by Nick Ball (WBA), Angelo Leo (IBF), and Rafael Espinoza (WBO).
